The area of Campoverde is situated in the South of Spain, close to the Spanish town of Pilar de la Horadada in the province Murcia. The landscape around Campoverde has a range of extended orange plantations and pine forests. The natural reserve of the Rio Seco , joins directly to Campoverde offering splendid nature walks. Campoverde has bus routes, banks, supermarkets, kiosks, Restaurants and other facilities for everyday needs. In approximately 5 minutes you can reach the town of Pilar de la Horadada which has extensive supermarkets, furniture shops and much more. There are several excellent beaches around Campoverde. The salt lakes (Salinas) at the nearby coast of San Pedro Del Pinatar have all year round flamingos and other visiting exotic birds. The airport of San Javier (Murcia) is approximately 20 minutes from Campoverde and Alicante Airport is approximately 60 minutes.

Spain is a country rich in history and culture, and the area in which the apartment is situated is no exception. With the cities and towns of Alicante, Murcia, Orihuela, Torrevieja, Cartagena, La Manga and Elche all close by, there is a wealth of museums, galleries, parks and gardens to explore. Spain also is the home of fiestas, and almost all year round you will find them celebrating some historical or religious event, accompanied by colourful processions, impressive firework displays and, of course, plenty of eating and drinking.

The Spanish town of Torre de la Horadada lies at the south of the Costa Blanca. It has a beautiful Marina and long sandy beaches. Torre de la Horadada offers nice walks along the shoreline, through dunes and the nearby Salinas of San Pedro de Pinatar, which is well known for its Flamingos. The natural Lagoon of the Mar Menor is next to the Salinas of San Pedro. The plaza of Pueblo Latino is at the northern edge of Torre de la Horadada, and is a very popular venue for just a coffee or sitting down for an evening meal. Torre de la Horadada has facilities for every day use such as supermarkets, banks etc.

The Mar Menor is a natural lagoon separated from the Mediterranean Sea by the la Manga strip with high water temperature which provides excellent conditions for all types of water sports. Children can splash safely in the shallow waters or play on the nice sandy beaches. Within the countryside of la Manga you are able to change from the beaches of the Mediterranean to the beaches of the lagoon easily on foot. The luxurious la Manga Club offers plenty of golf having 3 courses and for the evening a casino inside the amazing Hyatt Hotel. The mud baths in Mar Menor are very well known due to their healing affects and during the summer is extremely popular with the Spaniards.

 Shops

There are new shops, bars and restaurants 5-10 minutes walk from the apartment. This parade includes a small supermarket, a pasty shop as well as ice cream bars and restaurants.

Campoverde village has a few shops. In the first part of the village you will find a hardware store, pharmacy, gift, tobacco and paper store and a small supermarket. Drive through the village and about ½ mile to the right is a turning where you find a gift shop and the Gama supermarket. This supermarket is associated with Tesco and so sells some English goods like English tea and Cadbury’s chocolate! Etc. They also sell excellent meat cuts for the Barbie!

For your weekly shop we advise going to the bigger supermarket like Mercadona in Pilar.  Drive through the High St. towards the sea and it can be found halfway down on one of the left hand streets. It is signposted from the High St.

There is also a Lidl in San Pedro as well as other supermarkets and a Hypermarket, Carrefour is in Cartagena and Torrevieja. Carrefour is worth a visit even if it is not for the weekly shop. Be aware, if you decide to venture into Torrevieja, the traffic can be busy and what normally takes 20-30 minutes on a good day, can take up to an hour on a bad. There is a back route however. At the Campo Verde roundabout, turn right towards Orihuela and follow the signs to San Miguel and Torrevieja to the N332. Turn left onto the N332 and you will see the signs for Carrefour. This back route can be narrow and winding in parts so go carefully but the National Park countryside is worth seeing.

The Carrefour at Cartagena can be found just off the second Cartagena junction of the A7 motorway of which you can pick up off the N332 just before you get to San Pedro.

Bars and restaurants

Campoverde village has Spanish Chinese and German bars and restaurants. Juanita’s is a well-priced Spanish restaurant serving pizzas, fish and steak dishes. They also have pool table! And Karaoke on Friday nights!, which can make for a good and sometimes amusing night out!

Further up to the right is La Corona, a German restaurant serving excellent food.

Drive through the village and about ½ mile to the right is a turning where you will find a sports bar, Chinese restaurant and others.

As you probably know, most urbanisations have a variety of bars and restaurants and discovering them can be fun.

In the apartment in one of the unit drawers are a variety of leaflets and cards collected from places that we, and others have enjoyed. Hopefully you will to!

 Markets

There are open markets throughout the week where you can buy fruit, nuts and vegetables, clothes, shoes and allsorts.

One of the biggest markets in Spain can be found at Torrevieja on Fridays.

Pilar de la Horadada also has a large Friday market. Driving through Pilar towards the N-332 and the sea, the market is located to the right of the town on the back streets.

San Pedro market is every Monday. As you drive into San Pedro from the motorway roundabout (from the Pilar end of N-332), the market will be found on the right.

Torre de la Horadada also has a Thursday market. From the N-332 towards Torre, the market is on the left side, N-332 end of the town.

Beaches

There are plenty of beautiful beaches all along the Costa Blanca the closest being Torre de la Horadada. Drive through Pilar to the N-332 roundabout. Go straight over the roundabout heading for the sea. The beach is about 10-15 minutes from the apartment.

Most urbanisations on the coast have nice beaches, Torrevieja, La Zenia, Mil palmeros, Torre etc. There are too many to mention.

For the quieter beaches, turn right on to the N-332 or A-37 motorway through San Pedro and south towards la Manga. 

Swimming pools

A must! Especially in the hotter 40ish degrees months of the year! The apartment benefits from 2 shared pools. The deeper of the 2 is two doors away to the left as you exit the apartment driveway. There is a grassed area for sunbathing. Passing the first pool area and going to the bottom of the road, you will find the second shallower pool. Again this has a grassed sunbathing area.

Campoverde village also has 2 municipal pools. The first is located on the left just past the first block of restaurants. This pool has a snack and drinks bar. An entrance fee of 1euro is charged per person per day to use this pool.

Drive through the village and go almost to the end of the main stretch, you will find to the left and signposted “Rio Seco”. Here you will find another larger and usually quieter pool with sunbathing areas. There are also tennis courts, a snack and drinks bar and a new German restaurant (have not tried this one yet). Again a 1euro per person per day is charged to use the pool area.

There is also an indoor (they open the sun roof on hot days!) municipal swimming pool in Pilar.

Aqua-Parks

The Aqua-Park in Cuidad Quesada is open from June to September, 10.30 – 19.00.

It has a large swimming pool and a toddlers water fun area. The bigger kids can enjoy water slides and chutes, a great day out. Prices are approximately 7euros for under 11s and 9 euros for adults per day. If you arrive after 3pm it is a little cheaper.
